Hall of Fame: Frequently Asked Questions
- Why are the track record board and 1,000 point basketball banners coming down?
The track record board is coming out of the gym and the plan is to put it in the hallway near the gym so the print of the names can be visible. Currently the board is difficult to read based on the location and small font size. The 1,000 point club is not being removed. It is a tradition that has been here to Haldane and those athletes will continue to be recognized. However, I may have the banners reorganized so that visually it looks more appealing.
2. Why is the district taking down the jerseys that are currently hung in the gym?
The district has no plans to remove the jerseys that are currently hung in the gym. In fact, the district is looking into honoring at least one of the jerseys in a more impactful way.
3. What is the purpose of the Hall of Fame?
Haldane has a long history of outstanding individual and team accomplishments. A Hall of Fame is a way to recognize the strong history in the athletic department and to honor athletes, coaches, and others who helped build such a strong athletic program.
4. Why can’t we honor individual accomplishments with personalized banners?
(Home runs, Goals, touchdowns, etc.)
In sports it is hard to measure and honor only one individual statistic. At the interscholastic level we are trying to promote teamwork and the importance of everyone playing a role to help a team be successful. From sport to sport there are multiple significant statistics that are valued and to honor one over another takes away from the message interscholastic athletics are trying to send. For example, in soccer if we were to honor only goals it would take away from the defenders on the team. In soccer, most coaches look at goals, assists, saves, steals, shutouts and other sport specific statistics. In football if we only honored touchdowns it would take away from linemen or defensive players. In football important statistics include touchdowns, total yardage, tackles, interceptions, sacks, completions, and many more. The overall point is that a Hall of Fame can honor individuals regardless of sport and position. Anyone who played a significant role in their team's success will have the opportunity to be recognized as a potential Hall of Fame candidate.
